Office Makeover ORC Week 2

Office Makeover Week Two – Design & Planning

Hey guys! Welcome back to week two of our office makeover for the Spring One Room Challenge.

I finally start piecing together a mood board using colours I like and photos from Pinterest – I think the finished product shows the warm, inviting feel I want the room to have:

I also played around with my home design software and put together some layout options for the furniture – my favourite (and the Instagram pick) was this one:

Which we’re going to try and see how it fits in real life.

In the room itself, I haven’t really done a lot except for make a big mess and get raised eyebrow looks from Chris, who doesn’t even know what I’m planning but is just leaving me to it (love him).

Essentially, I started packing up the stuff from the bookcases so they could be moved down to the garage for a little surgery. Instead of replacing them entirely I have a bit of a hack in mind to combine them with some other pieces of furniture into a sort of console table/sideboard. Picture this:

Except…I need to paint everything and DIY myself a counter from random 2×6 boards we happen to have lying around. Sad little 2×6 boards, I have no idea why we bought you, but you have a purpose now. You’re welcome.

I’m also happy to say that I’ve figured out a sewing space idea that I’m kind of in love with. It is inspired by this folding workbench that I came across on Pinterest while searching for ideas for our garage:

Because I don’t sew everyday, and I don’t need a sewing table all the time, I’ve decided to create a tabletop out of some scrap wood and attach it to folding brackets. When I want to sew I can bring the table up, otherwise it’s folded flat against the wall – amazing!

For storing my sewing machine (and giving me a better ironing solution) I’m going to attach an ironing board to an Ikea kitchen cart to make something that looks (hopefully) like this:

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know I already started taking apart an ironing board 😉

So that’s my progress so far, this upcoming week I plan to start painting, continue to make a mess by rearranging the furniture we do have and go shopping (get ready Ikea, I’m coming for you). What’s on your to-do list this week?

Thanks for visiting and don’t forget to check out all the other makeovers happening this round of the One Room Challenge on Calling it Home.
