if-you-could-not-fail

I’ve jumped into the unknown to follow my dream

What would you do if you knew you could not fail? I asked myself that earlier this year and my answer was immediate. Quit my job and pursue my passion for design.

Then I asked myself – what’s stopping me?

Fear was stopping me.

Fear of being unemployed. Fear of learning something new. Fear of not being good enough.

But you know what? I did it anyways.

On July 1, 2016 I officially became unemployed for the first time. I left a career as a digital product manager and enrolled in a certification course to become an interior decorator and home stager.

The last few months have been some of the craziest for me. Almost every week I have a moment of panic and wonder – Am I totally nuts? Have I made a huge mistake? – but they pass quickly and I’m sticking with it. Why? Because I am so incredibly happy that I’m trying – that I’m actually doing it.

I picked up a part-time job at a shop in our local mall to help make sure my share of the bills get paid and I’m slowly working my way through my course work. My goal is to finish in March and officially start offering decorating and e-design services shortly after.

Why am I telling you this? Because sometimes you just need to say theses things out loud, to hold yourself accountable, and to have other people hold you accountable as well.

After this post I’ll be taking a little vacation from the blog – just a couple of weeks – to spend some quality time with family and spend some time I would usually spend on my blog posts working on assignments and planning for 2017.

I’ll be back on January 16th sharing more of my plans for 2017 and some fun projects I’ve been working on.

So let me ask you this:

What would YOU do if you knew you could not fail?

What’s holding you back?

If you want to say it out loud to someone drop me a line at casey[at]housebythebay[.]com

  1. You’re right, Casey; you can’t fail! You’re too smart, too creative, and too organized to fail! I’ll enjoy watching your successes!

  2. Hi! I found your blog via The Blogger Programme and I love what you’re doing here! I’m in a similar boat with quitting my job and starting my own business, it’s overwhelming for sure, but also kind of awesome! Let me know if you’d ever be interested in working on something together (guest blogging, etc.). My blog is http://www.lifeonhillst.com
    Happy Thursday!

  3. Congratulations on taking the leap of faith. Go out on a limb–that is where the fruit is! My hubby and I, although running our full time humanitarian aid ministry alongside our full time Painting and General Maintenance business, in March, 2015 made a huge decision. Doing both was killing us at 80+ hours a week. So, we had to examine where our heart’s desire laid, and that was with the needs of the community. It has been scary and very tight financially. In 2016 our combined taxable income is $12,700. But no matter, we know we are right where we are supposed to be and doing what we are supposed to do. You can do this too!
